I was and am quite illiterate 'Arabically speaking'... you know how we learn the quran those days with the accent on finishing in front of a stern looking Tok Guru with a rotan.

Hamka "opens up" the path for me.One or two ayat a day. With even all the relevant hadith thrown in as a bonus, and Hamka being a man of the world, threw in Islamic political history as well....not a bad education. He was a genius

Better still now if you lack the time I strongly recommend Muhamad al Ghazali's Thematic Commentary.Read it as a background 'data'on any relevant surah that you want to 'attack',go to quranexplorer on one of my 'Link', listen to al Bassit if you like it slow, and flow alongside him. After sometime you will be able to read well as the 'the 'arabic text is shown alongside, followed by the verbal translation in English read to you immediately after each ayat.Just sit back and enjoy.
If you find any interesting ayat which you cnnot comprehend, just 'pause' and recheck its meaning on Tafsir al Katsir also on the 'link' or go back to your copy of Hamka.

Have a pleasurable and wonderful journey and a 'love affair' with Truth my friend!
{ a small hiccough now in the fasting month, the quran explorer website 's traffic is too heavy, thus very slow}Pearls and Gemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06956076197010527489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2177051091363290480.post-6419482775957805472009-08-27T20:32:24.821+08:002009-08-27T20:32:24.821+08:00I am just wondering if it is ok if I read the tafs...I am just wondering if it is ok if I read the tafsir Dr Hamka without having to read all the surah in Arabic. I find that I cannot read as lancar as I would read those surah yang I memorise when I was little. What do you think Dr Prik?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
